Dim Sum TV covers the 2008 International Convention on Science Education and Medicine in Sport

The International Convention on Science Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS) was held from Aug 1-4, 2008 at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center, and Dim Sum TV was on hand to cover the activities. This year’s convention was conducted in association with the Olympic Games, and it lived up to this global-scale connection as one of the largest international sports and academic exchanges ever. Dim Sum TV was the only overseas electronic media selected to pose questions during the press conferences accompanying the opening and closing ceremonies.

The initial ICSEMIS press conference was held at the Baiyun International Convention Center on July 28, 2008, and was hosted by the organizing committee, and by the Director General of the Press and Publicity Department of the Communist Party of Guangdong Province, Mr. Li Shoujin. The press conference featured distinguished guests such as the Secretary General of the Organizing Committee and Deputy Director General of the Guangdong Provincial Sports Administration, Mr. Wang Yuping; and Prof. Dr. Gudrun Doll-Tepper, the President of the International Sports Science and Physical Education Council (ICSSPE). Dim Sum TV reporter Ms. Guo Lu asked Prof. Dr. Doll-Tepper about the current plans to promote the research results of the ICSEMIS to the public. Doll-Tepper responded that the research results themselves were not the endpoint, but rather a step forward in the overall development of sports sciences, adding that they will nevertheless promote the results of their studies in several languages all over the world. Specifically in China, she expressed hope that the theoretical achievements they’ve made will be provided to all of the relevant bodies for the betterment of everyone involved in sports and sports medicine.

The ICSEMIS was successfully concluded in Guangzhou on August 4, 2008 with the academic awards, which were attended by 16 scholars from eight different countries. It was announced during the conference that Glasgow, Great Britain will host the 2012 ICSEMIS. In the press conference, Dim Sum TV was the only media presenting questions in English. Our reporter Ms. Lu asked the President of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), Mr. Walter Frontera, for his thoughts on the overall organization of the convention. Mr. Frontera said he thought the organization was done very well, specifically complimenting the services and facilities, and even elicited a laugh by lauding the opportunity the convention provided foreign scholars to taste delicious Chinese food.
