Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Marks 65th Anniversary with Release of Commemorative Pictorial Book in Hong Kong

On January 29, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) 65th Anniversary Commemorative Pictorial Book, jointly published by the Friends of Hong Kong Association and Hong Kong Wen Wei Po, was officially released in Hong Kong. Over 300 guests gathered at the launch ceremony to revisit the first 65 momentous years of the CPPCC.

The guests of honour at the launch ceremony included Mr. Dai Defeng, Chairman of the Friends of Hong Kong Association; Mr. Wang Shucheng, Chairman and Publisher of Wen Wei Po; Mr. Chu Maohua, Deputy Political Commissar of the People’s Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison; Mr. Raymond Tam Chi Yuen, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs of the HKSAR; Mr. Shen Chong, Director General of the Coordination Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Mr. Wu Yangwei, Director General of the Hong Kong Island Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR.

In his opening speech, Mr. Dai Defeng said that the past 65 years have seen the coming-of-age of the CPPCC along with the republic. Since its establishment, it has left an indelible mark not only on the founding, but on the building and fine-tuning of modern China. As a conduit for political debate and democratic input, its achievements in fostering political consultation, democratic oversight and political participation are singular and vital. Mr. Dai acknowledged the historical role played by the Friends of Hong Kong Association in driving cross-border exchange and cooperation, supporting national reform and development, and defending the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. His speech also paid special tribute to every patriotic individual whose life’s work is the upholding of the interests of Hong Kong and China.

In over 200 pages, the book retraces the historical footprint left by the CPPCC from 1946 to the present. Its contents are divided into 3 main sections: “CPPCC celebrates its 65th Anniversary”, “Path of Glory” and “A Solid Platform for Friends of Hong Kong Association and CPPCC members”.

“Try and fail, but never fail to try.” The achievements of the CPPCC are now a matter of public record. With its edifying combination of photos and text, the pictorial book provides a historical narrative that gives the reader invaluable insights into the political landscape of contemporary China.
